About Us

South Hills Ranch is located in eastern Uvalde Co. half way between Sabinal and Utopia. The ranch is owned and operated by the Watson family and has been dedicated to bowhunting by bowhunters for 20 years. South Hills ranch encompasses approx. 1000 acres along the southern boundary of the Texas Hill Country and the northern edge of the great South Texas brush country. As stewards of the land we manage both the wildlife and the native range with progressive ideas and a conservative hand. This is the most diverse region of Texas providing many plant species and abundant wildlife. There is a wide variety of brush , many being premium highly nutritious browse for whitetails and exotics. We supplementally feed during the summer stress period and have seen our deer quality improve consistently over the years. Dense brush covers the ranch with several drainages originating in the hills provide excellent cover and habitat for the deer and other game.

You will not regret joining us for a great bowhunting experience, abundant high quality game and down home family hospitality.

Is South Hills Ranch high fenced?

This is a frequently asked question that begs for an answer !! So here goes...

YES, we are high fenced and proud of it ! It took 4 long years of exhausting work and expense to build our perimeter fence stretching several miles. Here in Texas high fences around large acreage is often synonymous with big whitetail bucks and intense wildlife management. Without the fence, our harvest strategy would only be an educated guess-timate. We would simply be "shooting in the dark". You may be the best deer biologist in America but if you are guessing at deer numbers, densities, sex ratios, and age structure then you cannot do your job.

My question to you is: " Do you want to hunt quality?" or if you hunt open range/ low fence property, "How long do you sit on stand before a quality mature buck walks within range?" I know most bowhunters do not have enough free time to sit the average 30-60 days in the stand to have an opportunity to harvest a 3.5 year old or older whitetail buck living on low fence-high pressure property. Let's be realistic, the truth is, if you want to take a quality buck with your bow on unmanaged low fence land you need lots of free time. Hard working middle class American bowhunters have to divide their vacation between family and their bowhunting passion. So before you plan your whitetail time, remember to hunt where numbers of big bucks live.

In Texas we have higher concentrations of monster bucks (most behind high fences) than any other place on the planet. No brag, just fact!
